(MONDAY 1/25/16)
After having been defeated by Scott Swaaley the previous Friday, (I don't want to talk about it, but I swear; this friday, I will DESTROY Scott Swaaley!) I walked into the classroom and was greeted by the semiannual, per-semester, YouthTruth survey, The survey took about half an hour to do, and was filled to the brim with questions about our experiences last semester, and how the school could improve in the future. After getting that out of the way, I got right back into CAD.
I ended the week last week with these sketches:
I ended the week last week with these sketches:
They represent the dimensions that I have to cut using a lathe and mill on a 1/2 inch cylinder of aluminum. I wrote on my previous post about some of the specifics, so I won't bother here. But, I did start sketching this out, adding depth, making the thing to scale.
CAD has been really difficult for me, and it doesn't help that in-software tutorials have no audio. This entire process has taken me much longer than I wanted it to, and I sincerely hope that I get done with this by Thursday.
(Tuesday 1/26/16)
I've worked for about the length of this period, AND I'VE FINALLY DONE IT. I'VE DEFEATED CAD! (Thanks Ben Kenobi!)
I finished the to-scale 2D and 3D Bolt drawings. This is how they turned out:

All of the lengths are represented on the 2D image, and I used calpers and an actual 1/4 20 bolt to get the dimensions; I've gotta say... This is super satisfying, and that this is out of the way, I can start machining.
THAT'S ALL FOR NOW!
THAT'S ALL FOR NOW!
(Wednesday 1/27/16)
Today I made some changes to the bolt design.
I added threading and made the dimensions nice, round numbers. I still haven't started machining, I'll do that tomorrow.
(Thursday 1/28/16)
Today was the big one. Today I started making my bolt using the lathe. The entire process feels surprisingly natural, and I'm almost done with this bolt. I want to get this done by Monday so I can start writing up the pitch for my lightsaber project. Here's my progress so far:
